| Introduction | Gertrude (1886-1977) grew up on a pig farm in Indiana, the 2nd of three siblings. She graduated in English from Depauw University and moved to teach in Denver Co, where she met her husband and the father of her firstborn. When her son, George Kreigh Moody (1909-1966), was less than a year old she separated and went west. She supported herself and her children (she later remarried and had a daughter) in San Francisco as an accountant. Over the years she remained loyal to her love of writing, and to her garden. Sue Anne (1947-) is Gerdie's first granddaughter. She was born in Kyushu, Japan, exactly 2 years after the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, as a dependent of the US occupation. Raised mostly in the US, Sue Anne has a degree in history from the University of California, Berkeley. She has also studied the life sciences and journalism in Sweden, where she has spent most of her adult life working as a communication consultant for the Swedish export industry, writer and translator. |
