IntroductionI have a theory that the revelations of this blog will tell the reader as much about me as I wish to reveal. That said, I choose to use this space to identify the idea behind this ego driven discourse. Some years ago I decided to become a famous runner and run all over the world. I estimate fewer than 200 people even know that I run, and I have only competed outside the U.S. once, World Masters Track & Field Championships, Gateshead England, 1997. You could say that I'm seriously behind schedule, but I'm only 66. I've got time on my side. So what kind of running are you up to? Maybe we have a few things in common.
InterestsI have a great interest in running, both as a spectator/fan and as a participant. Some of my favorite runners are Usain Bolt, Haile Gebrselassie, Henry Rono, Hicham El Guerrouj.
Favorite moviesI recently enjoyed these movies: Frozen River directed by , Courtney Hunt (2008) The Dark Knight directed by Christopher Nolan (2008) The Visitor directed by Thomas McCarthy (2008) Star Trek directed by J.J. Abrams(2009)
Favorite musicI'm all about the present so whatever Bette Midler is singing in her mega production The Showgirl Must Go On at famed Ceasers Palace in Vegas, that will be my new Favorite Music come Aug 22 when Bernice and I take in the show. Also among my favorties will be the 20 Ceasers Salad (dancing)girls.
Favorite booksWhatever I read last, if I liked it, that's my favorite book. My favorite genre is Science Fiction and I just finished reading a trilogy about the occupation and transformation of the planet Mars. The books, Red Mars, Green Mars, and Blue Mars, written by Kim Stanly Robinson, have captured my imagination more completely than anything futuristic I've ever read. I'm also into crime novels, especially those featuring some form of alpha detective. So Blood Type, driven by San Francisco gumshoe Marsh Tanner and written by Stephen Greenleaf, was a good read. It was especially rewarding because I went to high school with the author. Also, I like a good biography about once every five years. I'm currently reading Bowerman and the Men of Oregon by Sports Illustrated writer, Kenny Moore. A great American story, the book chronicles the life of legendary track and field coach Bill Bowereman; famous for coaching great distance runners, starting the jogging boom and creating the prototype Nike tiger shoe that led him to become a co-founder of a multi-million dollar industry.
