IntroductionBrenda moved to Alaska in 1977 as part of the cadre of teachers hired to staff the new rural high schools. She has taught in the Interior Alaska villages of Kaltag and Grayling, and in Angoon in SE Alaska. In 1985 she joined the team that was reopening Mt. While her teaching career has included many courses in the social studies, her area of expertise is Alaska studies (history, geography, cultures, politics, economics, current issues). Brenda has also helped to train teachers at the AK History and Culture Studies summer institutes, and her work has earned her state and national recognition, including the Milken Educator Award and the Governor's Award for Alaska History Teacher of the Year. Brenda retired from MEHS is 2010, and can be found hiking the trails in Sitka, kayaking, gardening, and practicing yoga.
