Introduction	My work is generally abstract, but I like to draw on influences from the real world be it with references from the environment and/or the people and cultures. I mainly work in paint, although have also done some sculpture and pottery work. When I begin a painting I don’t always set out with an intention - I work a lot with layering the paint in thin layers, rubbing away, re working over it, involving detail, with sudden blocks of colour. Sometimes I find the painting isn’t really going anywhere and then suddenly you make a line and disturb the painting or the colours you are using and find that they somehow come together and the painting takes a new direction. I use a lot of photography in my work. I find taking abstract shots or close ups of surfaces or materials a great way of beginning a painting as it gives you a guide line of shapes and colour and a way of structuring your work. I also find that by photographing sections of one of my own paintings I can use the images to inspire several completely different new paintings.
