| Introduction | I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a blood cancer, April 20, 2005. I finished my treatments a year later and relapsed within a month or so. This time the leukemia cells were in my spinal fluid (June 06) and were treated with spinal taps of chemo. Shortly after, we had to stop the spinal taps because the leukemia was back in my bone marrow. The doctors wanted to get me back into remission so I can have a stem cell transplant. The doctors had to find a donor match for me in order to have healthy bone marrow and beat leukemia. |
| Interests | My friends and family rallied to coordinate donor drives to find a match and fundraisers to help Gift of Life with the testing, but no luck in finding a genetic match for me. Luckily, doctors can also use stem cells from umbilical cord blood. I was the 13th adult at MSKCC to have a double umbilical cord transplant. The donor drives and fundraising were still very successful at getting many people to join the registry and save other peoples' lives. The fundraising helped to pay for much of the testing. |
| Favorite movies | After my transplant, I set up a fund at MSKCC to support some talented doctors I know in their research to treat leukemia. If you want to send a donation, please send to: Ms. Katie Kotkins (put Lindsey Brass Fund in memo) MSKCC 633 Third Avenue 28th Floor New York, New York 10017 any questions: call Katie Kotkins 646 227 2511 or email KotkinsK@MSKCC.org |
