Occupation Spanish and Russian Teacher
Location United States
Introduction ¡Hola! I began my teaching career while still a student during an exchange program in Moscow. I taught ESL while there, and continued upon my return in an immigrant and refugee center in Albany, NY. In 1995, I began teaching a 5 year old little girl Russian, and the following year began teaching Russian at the Penobscot School, a nonprofit language school, where I continue to teach. In 1997, I was hired to begin the K-2 Spanish program at Camden Rockport Elementary School, which eventually expanded to a K-4 program. Over the last several years, I began giving workshops and presentations in a variety of professional conferences and schools, serving as a resource and mentor for other teachers at the elementary level. In 2009, I became the Maine representative for the National Network for Early Language Learning (NNELL), which is a national advocacy organization for PreK-8th Grade foreign language instruction. I believe deeply in giving every child the opportunity to explore, discover, and experience foreign languages and cultures with the ultimate goal of being linguistically proficient and culturally literate upon graduation from highschool.
