| Introduction | My obsession with the avian world began in 2016, with a quest for Snowy Owls. For months I had been reading about all the owls people were seeing that winter, so I went out in search of them. It wasn’t exactly a spark bird as much as a spark experience for me, as in those weeks I spent searching I came across lots of other cool birds like Horned Larks and Golden Eagles. Soon after that I found the "explore" feature on eBird and discovered that a shocking 260 species are seen in Bruce each year (I had a mighty life list of 55 at the time). I then found out there was a local bird group called the Bruce Birding Club that had field trips around the county. I went out with them in early April and got 30 lifers that day. I was hooked. 4 years later I'm a hike leader for the BBC & OFO and an eBird reviewer for a few counties.. time flies! My favourite types are birding are morning flight watches and lakewatching.. anything with birds in flight. I’m doing an Ontario big year next year (2022) and will be posting regular updates to the blog, so feel free to follow along! My fav bird? Hard to say but probably Gyrfalcon.. |
