IntroductionI grew up Southern Baptist. Was baptized as a child, and subsequently dunked a second time in the baptismal pool as a young teenager following a hellfire and brimstone sermon that left me questioning whether I was indeed a Christian.....whether I was "saved." I would later be hurt by church folk, and would leave the church. The Shield of St. Michael began in 2009 as my response to being accepted into a loving Christian community in West Anniston, Alabama. It has been a community for me in which I have felt "shielded" by God's love. Since that time, my Christian family has grown through Cursillo in the Diocese of Alabama. The original purpose of this blog was to invite others who may have felt unwelcomed in churches to discover God's grace and love I found within The Episcopal Church. It remains as an invitation to discover God's transformative, life-giving love expressed through Jesus Christ. And like the little sign that hangs outside my church, all are welcome here.
