Introduction Joanna Bramel Young, recorderist, studied recorder and early music in Freiburg, Germany at the Hochschule für Musik, and continued her studies at Stanford University. For many years she was on the faculty of Santa Rosa Junior College where whe taught classes in recorder. She also was on the faculty of many early music workshops sponsored by the San Francisco Early Music Society, and for several years she taught at a recorder workshop on the shores of Lake George in New York. Besides being a founding member of Nota Bene, she also, in 1976, along with Lyn Elder, founded the Festival Consort, a renaissance performing ensemble. With the Festival Consort she toured the United States with Community Concerts, sponsored by Columbia Artists. In the Festival Consort Joanna performs on recorders, crumhorns, shawms, and pipe and tabor. Joanna teaches recorder in Santa Rosa.
