| Introduction | Welcome to the land of Miss Myrtle and The Violet King, named after my great grandparents Myrtle and Alfred. They ran a flower farm in Victoria, Australia where Alf grew violets and took them to the Queen Victoria Market by horse and cart. Myrtle taught me to knit when she was in her 80's and she loved sweet peas, dahlias and gladioli, all my very favourite flowers. Her daughter, my grandmother was an incredible craftswoman who knitted samples for the local wool shop and also wove and embroidered. My other grandmother was a fabulous upcycler before the term was known and had an eye for quality furniture, beautiful china and fabric. And she was a passionate gardener too. Lucky me to have such a lineage! |
