Introduction I am originally from a small town in North Carolina that borders The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The natural beauty of this area attracts many artists, so I was lucky to have a variety of teachers and opportunities to view art when I was young. I majored in both Biology and Art at Wake Forest University. I went on to work in museums and research labs after graduation, and I eventually decided to study teaching at Tufts University. Since earning my Masters of Arts in Teaching, I have taught both Biology and Art as well as gifted enrichment. I taught in Boston, Atlanta, and Chicago before moving to Asheville, where I now teach K-4th grade students at Sand Hill-Venable Elementary School. I still love to draw and paint, and I work on commissions ranging from coloring books to murals. I love teaching art because I get to combine all of the different subjects in fun projects that students will remember. Creative projects in school always gave me a passion for learning, and I hope my students have a similar experience!
