| Introduction | I live and love in Cartersville, Georgia, since the summer of 2001. Originally from South Carolina, I really think of this area as my second hometown. I have three cats, Smeagol, Yellaboy and Roxy, and two dogs, Jack and Merlin. Jack is a Jack Russell Terrier and Merlin is a blue merle Australian Shepherd. They all are terribly wonderfully special to me. I am in the process of awakening my inner creative child. More specifically, I have--despite having very little "free" time--decided to pursue the interests that I had previously postponed, namely knitting, crocheting, and sewing. I am jumping head first into learning these art forms and decided to blog about my experience and anything else that transpires along the way. I must also admit that I love my day job. My students are the best people I know. I feel honored to be entrusted with their education and I strive daily to foster the meaningful learning experiences that they can carry with them into the future. I am blessed in many ways. |
| Favorite movies | Films that have made their mark on me include various and sundry Horror flicks, Film Noir, Romance pics from the 1930's-50's, Westerns, and many period pieces. More specifically, Gone With the Wind (of course--I have an undeniably Southern psyche), Pyscho, Doubt, The Dark Crystal (yes, I'm well aware that this is a Henson movie, and thus a kids' movie), Far and Away, Apocalypto, Sophie's Choice, Doctor Zchivago, There Will Be Blood, and many more that I don't have the presence of mind to list here. Frankly my dear, I doubt you give a damn anyway. |
| Favorite music | My music tastes have morphed into something new and quite different over the years. I find myself drawn to the more whimsical folksy alternative tunes, rather than musical darkness (metal and all things macabre). I do still enjoy the grunge music of my bygone youth (Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, etc.), though I am much more apt to listen to new Vedder strumming on a ukelele versus Versus (that was the album name, in case you weren't with me back in the day). Current favorites include Iron & Wine, Fleet Foxes, Ray LaMontagne, Mumford & Sons, The Decemberists, First Aid Kit, Lissie, Amos Lee, & The Avett Brothers. I've been known to listen to Classical and New Age from time-to-time, as well. |
| Favorite books | I teach English, so I could list herein a list that would bore you and only serve to satisfy myself. If you want to get an idea of the type of things that I really enjoy, here are a few: the poetry of Mary Oliver, The Divine Comedy, Alice Sebold, Stephen King, Alison Weir, the poetry of Walt Whitman, Sylvia Plath, Edgar Allan Poe, Anne Rice, and Linda Goodman. |
Your people want to make a statue in your honor. What will it be made out of and what victory will it commemorate?
Seriously? I would want it made of South Carolina sand and it would commemorate my love of nature. What a strange question...
