| Introduction | Hi Fellow Bloggers, I am Lemoy Petit-Hunte, wife, mother ,educator,literacy coach and Ph.D. candidate .For many years education policy makers in Trinidad and Tobago have been generating data that reveal thousands of our students do not possess the levels of reading, critical thinking and writing skills that they should possess at specific grade levels and, in spite of various educational reforms to treat with this phenomenon, the number of students who leave primary and secondary schools without basic literacy skills continues to grow. I believe strongly that in order to produce ideal local and global students who can go beyond being consumers of education to making positive contributions, I must first be an ideal teacher. My engagement in the M.Ed. Reading programme was a natural step in helping me with my continued professional and human development not only to be able to serve effectively as a specialist ,but as someone acknowledging that as an educator in an ever -changing, technologically advancing society and world, I need to possess more in order to give more to those with whom I interact at a professional level.
