Introduction | I am a professional gardener and a home gardener. I have been in the public garden business since 1979, I have a master's degree in botany, and I am a fanatic home gardener with ten acres of gardens, managed fields, young forests, an orchard, and all sorts of plant growing efforts. |
Interests | Gardening, land management, bicycling, swimming, garden photography, kayaking, rock gardening, gravel gardening, travel, German, native plants |
Favorite Movies | Great movies are mostly momentarily entertaining. I struggle to recall favorites. Goodbye Lenin and M (by Fritz Lang) were a couple of memorable favorites because they were so different. I enjoyed the television series Wired. I prefer indy type movies. |
Favorite Music | I have eclectic tastes, but for some reason what I like to listen to seems to drive whomever I am with crazy. |
Favorite Books | The Tin Drum probably made the biggest impression on me, many years ago. My favorite book I ever read to my kids: Watership Down. I read novels in the winter or when traveling. I would like to read more, but sitting down to read seems to always be a lower priority than the current moment's needs. I probably look at Index of Garden Plants more than about any other book. |
I love to listen to podcasts while I garden or am driving. The time passes so quickly, even when I am doing tedious work. WNYC's Radiolab, Science Friday, Freakenomics, A History of the World in 100 Objects, The History of English, and The Moth are some of my favorites.
