| Introduction | I love old recipes--old ones passed down to me from a different time, a different age. This blog was inspired by my fascination with my mother's 1960's era Betty Crocker cookbook. The recipes, ingredients, tips, and photos transport me to another time. Each time I linger on its pages I wish for a tardis that would insert me into the photos of the richly and sometimes weirdly displayed delicacies and ideology of the era. What did food taste like? What was "fancy"? Can a modern women summon the past, recreate the recipes, and serve it up on a platter? I intend to try! The cake that started it all is pictured here--a birthday cake for my beautiful and talented cousin. I learned many things from this single cake and hope this blog will help me document other kitchen and life adventures. |
