| Introduction | SIPA was founded in Markham, Ontario in 1998 and incorporated in 1999. SIPA has 500 members across Canada. Milestones are The SIPA Report "The Small Investors' Perspective of Investor Protection in Canada" - February 2004, and the joint report with CARP "Giving Small Investors a Fair Chance." - September 2004. SROs responsible for investor protection is a conflict of interest. SIPA is calling for a Government inquiry into widespread practices of investment industry worngdoing that results in small investors losing their life savings. The Canadian mutual fund scandal exposed in December 2004 when eight of the largest firms agreed to pay $200 million for their role in mutual fund market timing illustrates the industry's cavalier attitude towards small investors and how widespread practices of wrongdoing are. |
