Why does the color blue mean raspberry-flavored?

It's a consumerist conspiracy to make people STOP eating real food and only eat processed junk! But seriously, I think it's because so many fruits are red it's nice to be able to distinguish raspberry from strawberry and/or cherry. But this is merely a hypothesis.
