| Introduction | I began my career in 1959, joining Industrial Publishing Corporation (IPC, now Penton) in Cleveland. In 1967, I became the editor of an IPC magazine called Power Transmission Design. In 1973, I left IPC, and my wife and I bought a weekly newspaper, The Columbus News, in south central Montana. We sold the paper in 1977, and moved to northwest Indiana at the beginning of 1978. That year, I joined the yearbooks staff of The World Book Encyclopedia in Chicago. Later, I became the physical sciences editor of the encyclopedia. I left World Book in 2003, moving to the Cincinnati area to join the military-to-civilian recruitment firm RecruitMilitary – which my son Drew had founded in 1998. I worked as senior vice president of communications. My main task was to produce a print and digital magazine, Search & Employ®. I retired from RecruitMilitary in November 2016. I hold a degree in English from Rice University. I served in the United States Army Reserve. My wife and I have four children, nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. |
