| Introduction | My artworks incorporate the personal and the trivial ie private imagery/mythology. They are signs/signifiers which represent parts of landscape from various places in the world. They merge with or replicate these under different guises-sometimes becoming amorphous I believe my take on this subject is more ironic.ie the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect These are paintings which imagine suffering-but you would not realize this. I find it extremely hard to imagine that both my grandfather and father have killed other human beings. As John Keegan says (History of Warfare) from Clauswitz : “Soldiers are not as other men-they live in a world apart” and “Civilised warfare is defined by 2 antithetical types: the pacifist and the lawful bearer of arms” Like Stravinsky in the “Poetics of Music” ….my freedom consists in my moving about within the narrow frame” as also Queneau Henshaw 2013 |
