About me

Gender Male
Occupation Retired (temporarily I hope)
Location The mountains of North Carolina, United States
Introduction Recently retired (temporarily).Officially old, but I don't think that way. Somewhat idealistic in youth; now more realistic and skeptical. Don't believe the public should trust any elected official. Happily unmarried for over 20 years. A sense of humor keeps me sane in a world that often isn't at all humorous. If I had a motto, it would be "always try to do the right thing" or "follow the Golden Rule".
Interests Books, music, radio, movies, baseball, racing, politics, religion, and, oh yes, opinions.
Favorite Movies "Let The Right One In" is the most recent. Just about any British comedy. The "Pink Panther" series just isn't the same without Peter Sellers. Probably "Gone With The Wind" was my first favorite, since I've always been a Civil War buff.
Favorite Music Classical organ is my top favorite; especially the French composers. I like just about any kind of music really. I even attended a B. B. King concert recently. Definitely worthwhile.
Favorite Books Since "Let The Right One In" is my favorite movie, it is my current favorite book. Just about anything by the late William Manchester. I once read mostly non-fiction, but in recent years I've turned more to fiction. Either I'm having trouble with reality, or the non-fiction category is suffering.

You have to dig a hole to China. Where do you start?

It really doesn't matter; the backyard is as good a place as any. Besides, if you managed to dig a hole to China, you would be stampeded by at least 700,000,000 people trying to get out of China. And after they get out, I won't be trying to get in.
