| Introduction | In April 2014 I was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer. After undergoing chemo and radiation therapy, surgery was performed to remove the cancer. As a result of the surgery I have a permanent colostomy that I have affectionately name "Frank". After the recovery from the surgery I underwent further chemotherapy. I have been affected by an unexpected side effect, that being neuropathy in my feet and fingers. To help in my recovery I started riding a recumbent trike. This has helped greatly in rebuilding my mind and body. Starting April 21, 2016, the second anniversary of my diagnosis I will begin a cross country trip on my trike from Virginia to Oregon. I have titled this trip, "A Ride For Hope, Health and Rediscovery. |
