Introduction Hey all! There is a super song which inspired the finer details of this blog. Banjo Pickin Girl, first recorded by the Coon Creek Girls in 1938. As a banjo player and a girl and as someone who is about to do some traveling, I thought this song was especially fitting. Also, as a person who majored in history with a focus on 20th century American History, I was even more excited when I found the original recording date, and that the Coon Creek Girls sang for FDR at the White House. He's my favorite president (not that I was alive during his tenure) and I think that was a really interesting period in history... So there's a bit of the back story. I hope to learn the song on my banjo. It will take lots of practice, but that's how it goes, right? I'm starting this blog to log some of my travels while teaching abroad in Costa Rica. I hope to use this space to talk about some of the things that I do and see. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up with it in the midst of teaching, learning Spanish, eating rice and beans (mmm), playing some banjo and the like. Perhaps even more important, hopefully you'll enjoy reading it! As it goes, Pura Vida!
