About me

LocationGroningen, Netherlands
IntroductionIn October 2008 I started a PhD project on the evolutionary causes of senescence in the Seychelles warbler at the University of Groningen. The Seychelles warbler is a small passerine that is confined to four small Seychelles islands. During the first half of the 20th century, the Seychelles warbler was one of the world's rarest birds, with only 30 individuals surviving on Cousin Island. Cousin Island was bought to save the warbler from extinction and now approximately 350 warblers inhabit Cousin. Due to the translocations to other islands, the the world population now exceeds 2000 individuals. For my project, I will visit Cousin Island two times a year for several months. With this blog I hope to update you about the life and the research on the island.
