| Introduction | [OUR PAST] Originally founded in 1969 as the ‘Filipino Christian Workers’, this organization was formed to help new and resettled Filipino immigrants adapt to the Canadian way of life. A small contingent of volunteers established a social network for newcomers to help them find essential services such as housing, education, employment, job and skills training. [DESCRIPTION] The Silayan Community Centre (SCC) is a charitable, non-political, non-profit, non-sectarian, volunteer-based service agency primarily serving the needs of the downtown Toronto community and surrounding areas. |
