| Introduction | Born and raised in Revelstoke, BC, Michael studied at the University of Western Ontario (BA)and the University of Calgary (MSW). Following his military career, he worked for Calgary’s Social Services Department from 1978 to 1991. Moving to Kelowna in 1991, Michael worked with Okanagan Families before moving into his own retail business and then into financial planning. He served as Executive Director of the United Way from 1999 to 2005 and since then has provided professional consultation and training to the voluntary sector throughout BC through his company, Building Better Boards. No stranger to community service, Michael has served on many boards including the Elizabeth Fry Society, Sunshine Theatre and the Royal Canadian Legion. He is a member and past president of the Kelowna Rotary Club and has chaired the City of Kelowna’s Social Planning and Housing Committee; the Kelowna Homelessness Steering Committee and Kelowna’s Poverty Task Force. He is an accomplished public speaker, trainer and facilitator. His only acknowledged vice is golf. Michael has three sons, two daughters and ten grandchildren all of whom live on islands – Ireland and Vancouver Island. |
