| Introduction | I'm a survivor of medical mesh implant complications. I had a Trans Vaginal Tape implanted to treat stress incontinence in 2008. 3 years later in excruciating pain I had surgery to remove the implant. I thought my complications were a rare occurrence. However they were not. So it is time to de-bunk the myth, break the silence that allows women to suffer thinking they are alone and the odd accident or recipient of the one in a million defective mesh. I believe we need to educate ourselves in order to advocate for ourselves with respect to medical treatment. By sharing and caring we can protect each other from shame, embarrassment, being marginalized by the medical profession following the lead of medical manufacturers like sheep, using high risk medical interventions, and using untested implants practically cloned from recalled medical devices. Am I the only one who thinks there is something wrong with this picture? |
