| Introduction | I am a mom of four young, energetic and spirited children in a Chicago suburb. My children and husband Mike are my ultimate passions, but baking and eating sweets come at a close second. When my six year old son John was diagnosed with severe dairy, egg, peanut, tree nut and legume allergies at age one our family's life changed forever. No longer could we just wing it and order in food, go to a birthday party, or visit relatives for holidays without thinking ahead about what we could bring that was safe for John to eat. I didn't want him to miss out on traditional kid favorites like cupcakes, cookies and donuts. Since I am a dessert addict I spent months and years developing yummy treats for not only John to enjoy, but for our friends and family to enjoy as well. It has been my mission to make John feel included, not excluded in fun celebrations and get togethers. The fact that John can now pull up a chair to my kitchen counter, and lick the dough bowl like any other child is a true gift. |
