| Introduction | My first job was as a Clerk-Typist,at age 16, at an Air Force Supply Depot for about 3 years, followed by employment for 4 years in Freight Traffice Dept with two railroads. I turned 18 in 1945 and due to a heart condition was turned down when drafted. In 1951, when they were beginning to draft for Korean Conflit I enlisted in USNavy, as I thought the heart condition might have improved and I did not prefer the Army...so I did 4 years in USN at the USNTC, San Diego,CA where I was a Yeoman (Court Reporter)using Gregg Shorthand as I was already an experienced shorthand writer...then I used my GI Bill to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees in Art (Ceramics and Sculpture)...(BA and MA in Art) at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. I taught in a high school for four years but did not enjoy it, so I returned to work working 22 years for SSA in Florida. A year later, I returned to Alabama, where I still reside. I became interested in collectibles and antiques and have operated a small retail store for about 18 years along with selling at a large Flea Market/Antique store in Gardendale, AL., and now, too, at the Bumble Bee Mall in Oneonta, AL. |
