About me

Location Long Island, United States
Introduction I live with my family in a small house on a tiny lot in a little town near the shore on Long Island. We garden and collect wild edible plants; recycle stuff into useful items; build things; live a frugal lifestyle; homeschool our son; make as many foods from scratch as possible; and are always looking for new things to learn and do. Our garden, yard, and life in general are an unending series of experiments and learning adventures. About the photo on the main page: those purple fruits that look like grapes are beach plums. These are wild plums that grow in dry, sandy places along the East Coast. They are native to Long Island and are abundant here, but only if you know where to look! The plums ripen around Labor Day and they make delicious jams and jellies. I'll be posting recipes later this summer.
