Introduction Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1962, Terry Smith grew up in a Christian home and sang in the church choir. The choir’s annual summer tour allowed him to travel the states, and helped to shape his understanding of the diverse cultures that exist throughout America. As a child Terry was drawn to everything ART! He would approach his coloring books as if they were a canvas, awaiting the stroke from the Artist's brush. While traveling with the choir in the summer, he'd take his Minolta 110 camera along to document these character building experiences. At age 16, while feeding starving orphans in Port Au Prince, Haiti, Terry photographed “innocents lost” and witnessed first hand the terrible affects of a dictatorial regime. As a teenager he would sketch mostly with a No. 2 pencil, it was usually images of ships, leafless trees and the human form. In his 20's, Terry's artwork became more surreal and experimental. Charcoal pencils and coarse papers were used, “replacing the coloring books” of his childhood.
