Introduction I was born in Morenci, Arizona and raised high in the Andes Mountains of Peru in a little mining town called Toquepala. Toquepala was a melting pot of peoples from around the world. I'll blog a bit about what it was like to be raised in Toquepala, but it's on the fringe of one of the world's driest deserts, making the Sonoran Desert around Tucson look like a paradise. I have spent enough time living in the desert areas of the world to call myself a desert rat. I'm an avid cacti fan and had a huge collection of famous bloomers in Tucson, some of which I brought starts from. It was in Oregon where I learned of organic gardening, community-supported agriculture, the wisdom of the hippies and that 90% of everything I needed to survive could be raised and grown on my own land. My job keeps me indoors way too many hours a day and has for 35 years. I love to be outdoors, though and I'm a true spring butt and can't sit for more than a couple of hours working before I have to run outdoors and dig in the garden or work on a project. I'll be blogging about health, organic gardening, organic cooking, food preservation, photography, life in Peru and family.
