IntroductionFrom left to right: Marcia Anziano, Jeff Glossa, Susan and Chris Nolte, and Shelle Marsh are training to swim the English Channel. Our window for swimming is August 1-7th depending on weather and winds...The distance of the English Channel is 23.69 land miles across from the White Cliffs of Dover at Shakespeare Beach in England to Cap Gris-Nez in France. You will most likely wind up swimming between 30 and 40 miles because the tides will push you from side to side a little. The path will probably look like the letter ā€˜S’. Let the fun begin:) FAQ's 1. The water temperature will be between 55-63 degrees. 2. No wetsuits allowed, one swim suit, one cap, and goggles. 3. Average swells are 3 to 5 feet. 4. You may be called to swim a night crossing. 5. Then English Channel is one of the busiest shipping channels in the world. 6. Our crossing will take anywhere from 11-17 hours. 7. Swimmers try to gain 20 + pounds before the swim to help with the cold water. 8. Less than 1,000 swimmers have successfully crossed the channel. 60% of swimmers trying to cross the channel do not finish.
