Occupation Senior Pastor
Location Chicago, IL, United States
Introduction I was born on December 2, 1966 to Dr. Clarence (deceased) and Margaret Stowers, Sr. in Evanston, Illinois. I began my spiritual pilgrimage at the Mars Hill under the leadership of (my father & hero) Dr. Clarence E. Stowers, Sr. I accepted my call to preach in 1991 and was licensed and ordained at Mars Hill. In May of 1999, I succeeded my father as the pastor of the historic Mars Hill Baptist Church of Chicago. Mars Hill has experienced phenomenal ministry growth under God's supernatural hand. Since my ministry there, more than 1500 souls have been saved and united with the church. In 2004, Mars Hill was awarded the Church Health Award from Rick Warren and Saddleback Church. Mars Hill is an innovative, multicultural, and soon-to-be multi-site church. With membership now exceeding 2500, it is one of the fastest growing churches in the Midwest. I share my life and ministry with my gifted wife, Lady Shauntai Stowers and three children, Myles, Joshua and Lauren.
Interests 1. My family - after it's all said and done, I'm still the "King" there. 2. My "hog" (Harley-Davidson Road King Classic Motorcycle) is my main stress reliever. There's nothing like the wind in your face and people staring @ "my hog." 3. Black history - the past has a lot to teach us about the present. Who I'd like to meet: If I could go back in history, I'd like to meet the late: Apostle Paul (deep thinker & prolific writer) Apostle John (explain to me the book of Revelation - what did you see), Fredrick Douglas, The Seven Jewels of my Fraternity - Alpha Phi Alpha; W.E.B. Du Bois An Alpha man), Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (An Alpha man), Thurgood Marshall (An Alpha man), Malcolm X, and Reginald Lewis (1st Black Billionaire) Currently, I'd like to meet: AR Bernard (New York City pastor who's doing an incredible work); Bill Cosby, Earl Graves (Black Enterprise Magazine founder) Oprah Winfrey (need I say more), Bill Gates (richest man in the world), Warren Buffett (2nd richest man in the world), Bill Clinton (gifted communicator), Steve Jobs (Apple computer founder - OK, I'm a Mac man) and Robert Johnson (former CEO of BET).
Favorite Movies Malcolm X (Spike & Denzel did a GREAT Job), A Beautiful Mind (Russell Crowe blew me away - great actor); Crash (the real deal on race relations in the US), Five Heartbeats (Eddie Cain killed 'em at church), and Mo Better Blues (another Spike Lee classic)
Favorite Music Old School R&;B, Neo-Soul, Jazz (Improv &; contemporary), Old School Rap (Public Enemy, KRS One, Too Short - you know what I mean), and of course, Gospel.
Favorite Books The Bible (I'm a pastor - you know it comes first); How to Win Friends &; Influence People - Dale Carnegie (a classic everyone should read); The Purpose Driven Church (changed the way I thought about doing church); Why Should White Guys Have All the Fun - Reginald Lewis' Biography; The Miseducation of the Negro - Carter G. Woodson; The Billion Dollar BET - Robert Johnson's inside story on BET. I love books, I could go on forever!
