RenaissanceInTuscany
| Introduction | Officially I am Dr. A.T.W. Johnson, D.Phil(Oxon); my cover is a senior policy advisor in a Western-world Government which shall remain nameless. Behind this front, my new identity burgeons as an independent scholar of whatever catches my fancy within the Renaissance in Tuscany. This blog marks a first emergence from my cover but as yet a tentative one: a slow start to what I hope will be a long and highly enjoyable journey in my new guise. My Renaissance centres on the quattrocento times of Aeneas Silvius Piccolomini of Corsignano and Pienza; but the Renaissance voices I seek to understand are those of the famous and anonymous artists, craftsmen and builders whose works make up the visible Renaissance in Tuscany, together with the writings of contemporaries who were their civic authorities, their patrons, customers or employers, and their influential public or, occasionally, their intellectual and creative inspirations. |
