| Introduction | Are you a leader? Are you being equipped for leadership in a way that is tailored to your situation, your context, and your organization? Leaders are fashioned and formed through a long-term, experiential, and reflective process. Working hard is important when the work itself is hard. Leadership and communication are not "soft skills," but some of the most challenging and difficult skills we can attempt. We do not master leadership or communication, but we can work hard, study it, practice it, and watch others do it to gain insights into how we can do it too. Leading is a people business and is all about relationships. Clear, effective, and constant communication (internally and externally) is at the heart of leading. Vision is important to leadership; as the late president of the University of Notre Dame Rev. Theodore Hesburgh once said,"The very essence of leadership is that you have to have vision. You can't blow an uncertain trumpet." No one wants to follow a leadership who doesn't have an effective vision, the ability to communicate it, and the strategic ability to implement it. |
