| Introduction | Since 2009 the Galveston Island Tree Conservancy has been dedicated to replanting Galveston's urban forest after Hurricane Ike's 2008 storm surge killed more than 40,000 trees. Hi, I'm Priscilla Files, Tree Planting Coordinator for GITC. I'm an IBC (Islander By Choice) and thrilled to be working towards the Conservancy's 5-year goal of replanting 25,000 trees on the Island. My background includes Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Horticulture from Texas A&M (WHOOP!). I've worked in the landscape and ornamental horticulture fields with Texas Cooperative Extension at TAMU, Controlled Environment Agriculture Center at University of Arizona and as a landscape contractor in both Arizona and Texas. This blog is dedicated to talking about trees. Mostly Galveston Island Trees. What they do for us and why we need them; how to plant them and keep 'em healthy; how our unique island climate effects them and how to chose trees that thrive in our environment. |
