Introduction | Chairman of the Bases Conversion Development Authority, Tong Payumo also served as Chairman/Administrator of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority and Representative of Bataan for three terms. Born in Dinalupihan,Bataan, he graduated Valedictorian from the Northern Bataan Institute. He studied at the Ateneo de Manila U where he completed Bachelor of Science, major in Economics,Cum Laude and holds an MBA from Harvard University,Graduate School of Business on a SC Johnson scholarship. He also finished the Executive Program for Leaders in Development at the John F.Kennedy School of Government (Harvard Institute for International Development). He was with the private sector for more than 25 years (President of Engineering Equipment, Inc.)before venturing into politics. As legislator,he was consistently voted Top Ten Congressman. He was principal author of the Build, Operate and Transfer Law, the PEZA Law, and the Act converting the Military Bases into Special Economic Zones and other economic measures. In 2003,he was voted one of three Outstanding Filipinos(TOFIL) by the Philippine Jaycee Senate. Married to Daisy Sison of Naga City, they have one son and four daughters. |
