| Introduction | I grew up in a time when Julia Childs was in vogue, babies were being born everywhere, many mothers really wanted to please their families and husbands by learning to cook and more often than not had the time to do it. Words like women's lib, high-blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol were not part of our everyday vocabulary. Butter was served with, or on almost everything. Our favorite special occasion restaurant served a one pound Australian lobster with drawn butter. Divorce was almost unheard of in my time. |
