| Introduction | Dick Blide graduated from the University of Rochester and then followed his interest in medicine with a medical degree from Albany Medical College. After serving two years in the U.S Public Health Service he took a residency in internal medicine, followed by a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at the Univesity of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. He then joined the faculty as a professor of medicine, practiced academic medicine and established the first pulmonary laboratory in the chest service which he ran for seven years. He had a varied career thereafter, first as medical director of the Will Roger's Hospital, a general chest disease hospital, in Saranac Lake, New York for six years. He subsequently moved to Dallas, Texas where he practiced preventive medicine at the Cooper Clinic where he met and married his wife, Patti. Lastly, he practiced physical medicine and rehabilitation in Texas until his retirement in 1999. Dr. Blide and his wife presently reside in rural Washington State where they enjoy hiking, water sports and writing. |
