IntroductionI grew up in the quaint little fishing town of Deer River, MN- pop: 903. When they say it takes a village to raise a child, they were probably talking about a place like this.(Or they were just talking about hippies. I'm not sure.) Everyone knows everyone here- and while everyone is in your business- they will give you the shirt off their back in a moment's notice. Or in a snowstorm- which we have many. Even in June sometimes. I've seen it. The whole town does fundraisers if someone needs surgery or will bring you 'hotdishes' when your dog passes. It's just the kind of people they are. And while I learned hard work and wholesome Midwest values, when I left home I realized just how much I didn't know about the big crazy world out there. I joined the Navy after high school. Let's just say that was an education in itself! I've written down many stories I've collected over the years. This blog is just an extension of that and the lessons I continue to learn on a daily basis-especially on my trips back home.
InterestsMaking lists, herding cats, driving in inclement weather, performing the "running man", returning shopping carts to their rightful location, misspelling words, color-coding my closet, collecting cookbooks in hopes that it will make me want to cook more, unintentionally leaving horrible answering machine messages, shooting things to relieve stress, and practicing to be a ninja in my down time. Favorite booksMy Mom Hunts Submarines of course! (My first publication!)[seriously- who puts their own book as their favorite book?] I have many, many favorite books. I'm usually into some form of self-help book because, well, I figure I could always use the help. I'm a sucker for memoirs. I hope to learn from the best lives lived- famous or even better if they aren't. And every once in a great while I love a good vampire-sucking, romance, thrill-seeking, fairies-on-steroids, trashy piece of fiction. I mean, who doesn't?
