| Introduction | A mama struggling with bipolar myself, my husband and I are in the biggest journey of all raising our bipolar, ADHD and Aspergers daughter along with another daughter 17 months younger. I started this blog to share our struggles, triumphs, education, knowledge and resources and share with other parents and children in the same situation. My hope is that one day our society will embrace mental illness for what it is, an uncontrollable disease of the brain that must be managed by medication and therapeutic guidance, just like any other chronic diseases of the body. I also hope that shame and stigma will be replaced with compassion and caring for those who suffer from this often overwhelming and confusing illness. Finally, I look forward to the day when our nation can come together to create a system (healthcare, educational, justice) that supports and guides the mentally ill through life. As the saying goes, when you have lemons, make lemonade. We're on our lemonade making journey! |
