Introduction Journey of an Italian Cook is indeed a journey. I hunt for clues to my family's years in Basilicata, Italy. My grandparents did not write recipes or speak of their homeland much. They were determined to be Americans. So I search for their past through recipes. I try and meld the old with the new. And search for the tastes of their homes because I was too young to know how much I would miss it when it was gone. I still crave the red sauce of my youth for comfort but equally love the transformations and other takes that bloggers and chefs do. As a cook, I am evolving. So are my recipes. The interaction and generosity of other bloggers has been the delight of this blog. It's the engine and why I am here. The Kids and Theatre blog is a way of personally reaching out to others and exchanging information and insight into working with young people in theatre.
Interests I'm passionate about exposing youth to the arts. Writing for youth theatre is my day job and that world is as good as it gets. The world of food seeps into my plays. "Do you always put food in your plays?" a director asked. Yes. Yes, I do. Food is evocative of time and place and situation. It reveals character. It can be a wedge and a bridge. And there is nothing like creating a dish that allows you to time travel to other years and journey to other places.
Favorite Movies I have never been able to narrow down favorites - tell me a story. Grip me with character. Change me.
Favorite Music Am I cooking, reading, walking, travelling? Is it July or December? There's room for all types.
Favorite Books There are too many to name. I will plop down with papers on the origins of the universe, a good cookbook, a travelogue, a memoir, a mystery, a play, a poem...
