| Introduction | I am 22 years old, born and raised in Detroit, MI. Writing has always been an outlet for my imagination and freedom of expression, I began writing poetry and short stories at the age of 5. While other kids played outside, I found leisure writing in my personal diary or writing fun stories for my family to read. I was also obsessed with reading. I memorized every Dr. Seuss book there was. My reading selections of course matured with age, I was totally intrigued when I learned there were books about African American people. It wasn't that I didn't love all the other books I read, it was the simple fact that this was something I could really relate to. "The Coldest Winter Ever" by Sister Souljah was the first novel of this Genre I got my hands on. Although to this day that book is still my favorite, I grew to also love books by Zane, Omar Tyree, and Teri Woods just to name a few. My passion for these stories and my love for writing, in which I truly have been blessed with talent,has convinced me that it has always been meant for me to pursue a career as an author. I know I have something to offer to the world, and I am not holding back. |
