| Introduction | A sermon is the preached Word of God. Before he steps to the pulpit a preacher’s prayer is that the Holy Spirit will be at work in and through him as he preaches. As a result, what the preacher says from the pulpit may vary (sometimes considerably!) from the manuscript before him. What I post here is based on my written manuscript. As to style, sermons are written for the ear. Those of us who write sermons structure them with less attention to the ordinary rules of grammar and style than we would a written piece. I retired as the pastor of the Manassas Presbyterian Church, Manassas, Virginia(www.mpc-va.org) I earned both my Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary. |
