| Introduction | I always wanted to be a doctor, but a head injury several months after I got my MD degree ended a career in clinical medicine. The need to learn how to be a smart patient, and later to parent a child with autism and multiple other medical challenges, brought me to patient advocacy: The skills that allow people to be smart patients, to identify the healthcare they need and then work to get it in as positive a way as possible. Healing Woman is the result of a lifetime of seeing health, illness, and medicine from every angle... and finding we need to live every day to the fullest regardless of where we find ourselves in body, mind, and heart.
