| Introduction | Ahoy “Shipmate” , My name is Wayne Mills and I am a kayak fisherman now. Before I paddled around in plastic boats, I sailed all over the world as a Boatswain Mate in the United States Navy. I served in USS Shreveport (LPD-12), USS Edenton (ATS-1), Assault Craft Unit 4 (Hovercraft or Landing Craft Air Cushion LCAC), USS Enterprise (CVN-65), YP-677 (United Stated Naval Academy Craftmaster), and finally at Assault Craft Unit 2 (Landing Craft Utility 1600 Class Craftmaster). So you can see after 22 and a half years of being a Sailor and working my way “up” to command of my own craft it was hard saying “Fair Winds and Following Seas” to the only life I knew as an adult. It was an indescribable experience being a Navy Chief, Mentor or “Sea Daddy”, Subject Matter Expert (Yea Right) and a Seaman. I missed it after retirement but love being Daddy to my two girls and a husband to a great wife. This “Blog” is for me to document my experiences and share what this “Retired" Chief does to keep close to the water. I hope you enjoy it and like what I do for fun! I hope it inspires you to find your own star to sail! |
