Introduction	I am a deputy sheriff at Any County Sheriff's Office (we'll call it ACSO). I choose not to reveal the actual one for the sake of anonymity. I am certified and licensed in the State of Texas as both a jailer and a peace officer. All new county deputies are required to put time in the jail, and I'm six months in so far with this county. I have 4 years at another county prior to this. So, I'm a cop who is assigned to the corrections division for the time being. I do work extra jobs and ride patrol as well, so I get both worlds though my main assignment at the moment is the corrections division. ACSO has one of the best benefits packages in the state, and it's a great place to settle into a career. Many peace officers choose to work for municipal (city) departments for many reasons, sometimes one of which being that they do not want to work in a jail. I can understand that. However, I really believe ALL peace officers should be required to put in some jail time. It's great experience in so many ways.
