About me

Introduction Josie and Teresa were born July 25, 2001 in Guatemala and were Cranialopagus twins "conjoined at the head" Josie and Teresa were brought to the UCLA Medical Center by Mending Kids International on June 7, 2002. On August 5, 2002 they survived a heroic 23 hour surgery to separate them. The team was led by Dr. Jorge Lazareff, Neurosurgeon, and Dr. Henry Kawamoto, Cranial Facial. The girls miraculous outcome was heard across the world. Josie is an energetic and talkative one. She loves to be with people especially her friends from school. She enjoys singing, swimming and art. Josie is limited in her independent walking ability but gets around primarily in her walker and with her bike. Teresa is our sweet, loving little girl with a bit of fiestiness. She is a survivor twice. Teresa contracted Ecoli Menenghitis in her brain during the girls short 4 month return to Guatemala after separation. Unfortuantely, this infection left Teresa physically impaired. Teresa loves to go to school and horseback ride. We are grateful UCLA Medical Center, Mending Kids International, and Childrens Hospital Los Angeles for the great care they provide to the girls.
