Introduction After a lifetime of unapologetic and mostly unexamined meat eating, I am now vegan. I started out as a pescetarian and then vegetarian. It took about a year for me to go vegan and no, it's not that hard and yes, you can live without cheese. On this blog, I explore connections between food and relationships, animal rights, health, and the simple joy that comes from stumbling across a great new recipe or meal. I was born in Zaragoza, Spain and raised in the Bronx, Manhattan, and central New Jersey. I currently live in Philadelphia, PA with my husband, Brian and our adopted dog, Benji. I am a graduate of Rutgers University, where I studied psychology and English literature. For a few years, I was an editor at a medical journal. Now I am a full-time housewife, part-time community college student, rarely a doula and will enroll in nursing school in 2011 to become a certified nurse-midwife. My other writing has been published in BUST, Elle, and Guitar World, albeit as letters to the editor but you've got to start somewhere. I've also contributed to Vegans of Color (http://vegansofcolor.wordpress.com) and Girl with a Satchel (http://www.girlwithasatchel.com).

You forgot your mom's birthday! What can you make out of super glue and olive pits?

Gazpacho. Just add tomatoes to that list.
