| Introduction | In 1948, at the age of nine teen I found out that I had leprosy. My family turned me into the police, erased my name from the family history,shipped me off to the leprosarium on the island of Nagashima, and worst of all I had to stop diving. Soon after I arrived at Nagashima, I was cured of the disease completely, but I could not leave the island for fear of contaminating the mainland with the disease from the island, so I became a caretaker for all of the others suffering from leprosy. |
